Sketchbook PSD Mockup

What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD

A sketchbook mockup, made for presenting lettering. Drop in your artwork and the lighting and shadows stay as they are.

Good pick for lettering artists, art students or anyone putting together a portfolio. One thing worth knowing: dark designs often look flat on paper mockups. Turning the highlight layer up slightly brings back the sheen.

It also makes a good cover image for a Behance or Dribbble post, where the first thumbnail decides whether anyone clicks.

Up created this one and hosts the download on their own site, so you always get the latest version straight from the source.

What you can edit in this Sketchbook Mockup

Open it in Photoshop and you can change:

  • Your design, placed through the smart object
  • Shadows and highlights on their own layers
  • Paper or background colour

Editing the Sketchbook Mockup, step by step

  1. Export your artwork as a high-resolution PNG or JPG, around 300 ppi at print size.
  2. Open the file in Photoshop and double-click the smart object thumbnail in the Layers panel.
  3. Place your design, hide the sample artwork, save, and go back to the main file.
  4. Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.

Another tip: keep text at least a few millimetres from the edge. The mockup shows the trim, and cramped margins read as a mistake.

  • Use it as the cover image for lettering in your portfolio.

Questions about this mockup

Is it free for commercial use?

That depends on the author's terms. The download page lists what is allowed; when in doubt, ask the author directly.

How do I add my design?

Open the file in Photoshop, double-click the smart object thumbnail, paste or place your artwork in the new tab, save it (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close. The main file updates on its own.

Do I need Photoshop?

Yes. This is a PSD mockup built with smart objects, so you edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Any recent CC version works.

Can I show both sides?

It depends on the file. Many print mockups include a front and a back smart object; the preview usually shows whether both sides are visible.

Why does the download open another website?

We list free files from designers around the web and link to the original page, so Up gets the visit and you get the file exactly as they published it.
