If you’re presenting a social post, this hanging polaroid photo mockup makes the idea feel real before anything is produced.

Useful for wedding designers as much as for photographers. Dark designs often look flat on paper mockups. Turning the highlight layer up slightly brings back the sheen.

Seeing a layout on a real instant photo is also the easiest way to catch problems early. A phone number that looked fine on screen can turn out too small once it sits on paper. For a complete brand board, show it next to a business card and a notebook.

Credit goes to PSD Graphics. We link to their download page rather than re-uploading the file, so check their terms there before commercial use.

Hanging Polaroid Photo Mockup: editable parts

Everything below is on its own layer:

  • Your design, placed through the smart object
  • Paper texture you can turn up or down
  • Front and back artwork, where both sides are shown
  • Paper or background colour

How to use the Hanging Polaroid Photo Mockup

  1. Set up the design flat at the real print size and keep text inside a safe margin.
  2. In the Layers panel, find the layer with the small smart object icon and double-click it.
  3. Drop your artwork in, fit it to the canvas, save and close. The mockup updates by itself.
  4. Change the background or paper colour with the colour layer.
  5. Save a JPG for clients and social media, and keep the PSD for later changes.

Another tip: use CMYK-friendly colours in the artwork itself, even though the mockup is RGB, so what the client sees is close to print.

Good to know

  • Made by PSD Graphics. The download size and format are listed on their page.
  • Built for Adobe Photoshop. A recent CC version handles the smart objects best.
  • Some free mockups ask for credit when you post them. A short line in your caption is enough.

Questions about this mockup

Is it free for commercial use?

It's free to download, but the licence belongs to PSD Graphics. Check their page: it states whether commercial use is allowed and if attribution is needed.

How do I add my design?

Open the file in Photoshop, double-click the smart object thumbnail, paste or place your artwork in the new tab, save it (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close. The main file updates on its own.

Which Photoshop version do I need?

A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.

Will my artwork look printed or pasted on?

Most print mockups keep the paper texture and lighting on separate layers above your design, so it takes on the grain and shadows. If it still looks too clean, lower the opacity of your artwork a little.
