Open Square Magazine Mockup PSD

Show a magazine cover the way it will actually look: on an open square magazine mockup.
Useful for editorial designers as much as for publishers. Tip: export your artwork at the size the smart object asks for; scaling a small file up is the usual reason print mockups look soft.
Clients sign off faster when they can picture the finished piece, and a flat PDF rarely does that as well as a photo of the magazine. For a complete brand board, show it next to a business card and a notebook.
Use it for
- A magazine cover
- An editorial spread
- A company newsletter

Open Square Magazine Mockup: editable parts
Open it in Photoshop and you can change:
- Your design, placed through the smart object
- Shadows and highlights on their own layers
- Paper texture you can turn up or down
- Paper or background colour
How to use the Open Square Magazine Mockup
- Get your artwork ready at print size, with 1/8 inch of bleed if it runs to the edge.
- Open the file in Photoshop and double-click the smart object thumbnail in the Layers panel.
- Drop your artwork in, fit it to the canvas, save and close. The mockup updates by itself.
- Change the background or paper colour with the colour layer.
- Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.
Dark designs often look flat on paper mockups. Turning the highlight layer up slightly brings back the sheen.

Questions about this mockup
Can I use this magazine mockup for client work?
It's free to download, but the licence belongs to Pixeden. Check their page: it states whether commercial use is allowed and if attribution is needed.
How do I put my artwork on the magazine?
Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.
Which Photoshop version do I need?
A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.
Will my artwork look printed or pasted on?
Most print mockups keep the paper texture and lighting on separate layers above your design, so it takes on the grain and shadows. If it still looks too clean, lower the opacity of your artwork a little.
Why does the download open another website?
