Letterhead Mockup

What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD
  • License Free (see author's terms)

Presenting a brand guideline cover? Put it on this letterhead mockup and the client sees the real thing, not a flat file.

It’s a handy file for freelance designers and branding studios. Tip: use the same margins on every item in the set; it’s the detail that makes an identity look designed rather than assembled.

It also makes a good cover image for a Behance or Dribbble post, where the first thumbnail decides whether anyone clicks. For a complete brand board, show it next to a business card and a notebook.

Credit goes to Mockupful. We link to their download page rather than re-uploading the file, so check their terms there before commercial use.

Letterhead Mockup: editable parts

Open it in Photoshop and you can change:

  • Your design, placed through the smart object
  • Paper or background colour
  • Shadows and highlights on their own layers

How to use the Letterhead Mockup

  1. Export your artwork as a high-resolution PNG or JPG, around 300 ppi at print size.
  2. Open the PSD in Photoshop and find the smart object layer, usually named “Your Design” or “Place Here”.
  3. Drop your artwork in, fit it to the canvas, save and close. The mockup updates by itself.
  4. Change the background or paper colour with the colour layer.
  5. Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.

Worth remembering: dark designs often look flat on paper mockups. Turning the highlight layer up slightly brings back the sheen.

Where the Letterhead Mockup works best

  • Present a brand guideline cover in a client proposal or brand guide.
  • Show a full brand identity on your online shop or product page.
  • Share letterhead, card and envelope on Instagram, Behance or Dribbble with a real-looking preview.

Quick notes on this mockup

  • Made by Mockupful. The download size and format are listed on their page.
  • Some free mockups ask for credit when you post them. A short line in your caption is enough.
  • Built for Adobe Photoshop. A recent CC version handles the smart objects best.
  • Check the licence on the author’s page. Personal and commercial terms differ from file to file.

Questions about this mockup

What licence does it come with?

That depends on the author's terms. The download page lists what is allowed; when in doubt, ask the author directly.

How do I put my artwork on the stationery set?

Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.

Which Photoshop version do I need?

A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.

Can I show both sides?

It depends on the file. Many print mockups include a front and a back smart object; the preview usually shows whether both sides are visible.
