This mailing box mockup is a quick way to show a gift box design without a photo shoot.

Good pick for e-commerce brands, packaging designers or anyone putting together a portfolio. Quick tip: render two colour versions side by side. Clients choose faster when they compare.

It’s also handy for crowdfunding pages and pitch decks, when the product exists but the packaging hasn’t been printed yet.

Credit goes to GraphicBurger. We link to their download page rather than re-uploading the file, so check their terms there before commercial use.

Mailing Box Mockup: editable parts

Main things you can change in Photoshop:

  • Label or box artwork, placed through the smart object
  • Background colour
  • Shadows

How to edit this Mailing Box Mockup in Photoshop

  1. Finish the label first, with barcode and small print in place.
  2. Open the file in Photoshop and double-click the smart object thumbnail in the Layers panel.
  3. Drop your artwork in, fit it to the canvas, save and close. The mockup updates by itself.
  4. Check each visible side so the panels line up.
  5. Export a full-size image for your portfolio and a smaller one for social media.

Worth remembering: check barcodes, weights and small legal text at 100% zoom. Packaging clients always look for those.

Questions about this mockup

What licence does it come with?

It's free to download, but the licence belongs to GraphicBurger. Check their page: it states whether commercial use is allowed and if attribution is needed.

How do I add my design?

Open the file in Photoshop, double-click the smart object thumbnail, paste or place your artwork in the new tab, save it (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close. The main file updates on its own.

Which Photoshop version do I need?

A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.

Can I change the packaging colour?

Usually yes. There is normally a colour layer under the design smart object, so you can change the base colour without touching your artwork.
