What's inside

If you’re presenting wayfinding signs, this signboard mockup makes the idea feel real before anything is produced.

Branding studios and architects tend to get the most out of files like this. One thing worth knowing: check your artwork’s aspect ratio against the smart object before you start, or faces and logos get cropped.

It’s also handy for student and portfolio work, when you want to show a campaign that never went live.

Mockups For Free created this one and hosts the download on their own site, so you always get the latest version straight from the source.

Editable options in the Signboard Mockup PSD

Main things you can change in Photoshop:

  • Ad artwork, placed through the smart object
  • Glow layer for backlit scenes, where included
  • Lighting and shadow layers
  • Brightness to match the scene

Editing the Signboard Mockup, step by step

  1. Export the ad artwork large so it stays sharp in the scene.
  2. In the Layers panel, find the layer with the small smart object icon and double-click it.
  3. Paste your design, resize it to fill the area, then save (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close that tab.
  4. Check the crop so faces and logos stay inside the frame.
  5. Save a JPG for clients and social media, and keep the PSD for later changes.

Outdoor ads are read in a second or two. Big type and one image will look far better in this scene than a busy layout.

Where the Signboard Mockup works best

  • Show wayfinding signs to a client before it goes to print or production.
  • Make two or three colour versions of a neon logo and let the client pick.
  • Share a shop sign on Instagram, Behance or Dribbble with a real-looking preview.

Quick notes on this mockup

  • Made by Mockups For Free. The download size and format are listed on their page.
  • The preview shows the angle, background and lighting you’ll get.
  • Some free mockups ask for credit when you post them. A short line in your caption is enough.
  • Built for Adobe Photoshop. A recent CC version handles the smart objects best.

Questions about this mockup

Is it free for commercial use?

Mockups For Free sets the licence, and it can differ from file to file. Many free files allow personal and commercial use, but some are personal-only or ask for credit. Read the terms on the download page before a paid project.

How do I add my design?

Open the file in Photoshop, double-click the smart object thumbnail, paste or place your artwork in the new tab, save it (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close. The main file updates on its own.

Which Photoshop version do I need?

A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.

Can I change the surroundings?

Usually only lighting and shadows are adjustable. The street, sky or building are part of the photo.

Why does the download open another website?

We list free files from designers around the web and link to the original page, so Mockups For Free gets the visit and you get the file exactly as they published it.
