Apparel Mockup

What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD
  • License Free (see author's terms)
  • Author Free PSD Templates

An apparel mockup, made for presenting a small chest logo. Drop in your artwork and the lighting and shadows stay as they are.

Clothing brands and merch sellers tend to get the most out of files like this. Tip: if the print looks too sharp, a very slight blur (0.3 px) makes it sit into the fabric.

It’s also useful before a print run, to check how large the design should really be on the garment. Shops often pair it with a cap or tote bag mockup to show a small merch collection.

Credit goes to Free PSD Templates. We link to their download page rather than re-uploading the file, so check their terms there before commercial use.

What’s inside the Apparel Mockup PSD

The PSD is layered, so you can change:

  • Print design, placed through the smart object
  • Fabric colour
  • Shadows and highlights
  • Background colour

Add your design to the Apparel Mockup

  1. Decide where the design sits on the item and size your art for that spot.
  2. Open the file in Photoshop and double-click the smart object thumbnail in the Layers panel.
  3. Drop your artwork in, fit it to the canvas, save and close. The mockup updates by itself.
  4. Change the fabric colour with the colour fill layer.
  5. Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.

Another tip: light prints on light fabric vanish; try the garment colour layer first before you change your artwork.

Questions about this mockup

Is it free for commercial use?

Free PSD Templates sets the licence, and it can differ from file to file. Many free files allow personal and commercial use, but some are personal-only or ask for credit. Read the terms on the download page before a paid project.

How do I put my artwork on the T-shirt?

Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.

Which Photoshop version do I need?

A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.

Does the print follow the fabric folds?

Better apparel mockups use a displacement map or warp so the print follows the wrinkles. Check the preview: if the folds show through the logo, it does.
