What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD

This versatile apparel label mockup is a quick way to show a back print without a photo shoot.

Merch sellers and clothing brands tend to get the most out of files like this. Quick tip: keep chest prints around a third of the shirt width. Oversized art looks unrealistic on a folded or worn garment.

It’s also useful before a print run, to check how large the design should really be on the garment.

Zippypixels created this one and hosts the download on their own site, so you always get the latest version straight from the source.

Versatile Apparel Label Mockup: editable parts

Everything below is on its own layer:

  • Print design, placed through the smart object
  • Fabric colour
  • Background colour

How to use the Versatile Apparel Label Mockup

  1. Save your print as a PNG with a transparent background.
  2. Open the file in Photoshop and double-click the smart object thumbnail in the Layers panel.
  3. Drop your artwork in, fit it to the canvas, save and close. The mockup updates by itself.
  4. Lower the print opacity a touch if it looks too sharp on the folds.
  5. Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.

Another tip: if the print looks too sharp, a very slight blur (0.3 px) makes it sit into the fabric.

Where the Versatile Apparel Label Mockup works best

  • Show a band merch print on your online shop or product page.
  • Make two or three colour versions of a back print and let the client pick.

Questions about this mockup

Can I use this T-shirt mockup for client work?

Zippypixels sets the licence, and it can differ from file to file. Many free files allow personal and commercial use, but some are personal-only or ask for credit. Read the terms on the download page before a paid project.

How do I put my artwork on the T-shirt?

Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.

Do I need Photoshop?

Yes. This is a PSD mockup built with smart objects, so you edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Any recent CC version works.

Does the print follow the fabric folds?

Better apparel mockups use a displacement map or warp so the print follows the wrinkles. Check the preview: if the folds show through the logo, it does.
