Envelope Mockup

What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD
  • License Free (see author's terms)
  • Author Mockupful

This envelope mockup is one of the simpler ways to present a branded mailer or a return address and logo convincingly.

Good pick for branding studios, wedding designers or anyone putting together a portfolio. Keep text at least a few millimetres from the edge. The mockup shows the trim, and cramped margins read as a mistake.

Seeing a layout on a real envelope is also the easiest way to catch problems early. A phone number that looked fine on screen can turn out too small once it sits on paper.

Credit goes to Mockupful. We link to their download page rather than re-uploading the file, so check their terms there before commercial use.

What’s inside the Envelope Mockup PSD

Everything below is on its own layer:

  • Your design, placed through the smart object
  • Shadows and highlights on their own layers
  • Front and back artwork, where both sides are shown

How to edit this Envelope Mockup in Photoshop

  1. Get your artwork ready at print size, with 3 mm of bleed if it runs to the edge.
  2. In the Layers panel, find the layer with the small smart object icon and double-click it.
  3. Place your design, hide the sample artwork, save, and go back to the main file.
  4. Tweak the shadow and highlight layers to suit your colours.
  5. Save a JPG for clients and social media, and keep the PSD for later changes.

One more thing: if the paper has texture, drop the opacity of your art by a few percent so the grain shows through.

Questions about this mockup

What licence does it come with?

That depends on the author's terms. The download page lists what is allowed; when in doubt, ask the author directly.

How do I add my design?

Open the file in Photoshop, double-click the smart object thumbnail, paste or place your artwork in the new tab, save it (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close. The main file updates on its own.

Which Photoshop version do I need?

A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.

Will my artwork look printed or pasted on?

Most print mockups keep the paper texture and lighting on separate layers above your design, so it takes on the grain and shadows. If it still looks too clean, lower the opacity of your artwork a little.
