Here’s a MacBook mockup that works well for a portfolio case study, a SaaS dashboard and similar projects.

It’s a handy file for developers and web designers. Tip: screenshots with a white background can blend into the bezel; a thin shadow or darker UI reads better.

It’s also a quick way to make case study images look consistent: same device, same angle, different screens. For a fuller case study, combine it with a laptop or tablet mockup showing the desktop version.

PSD Graphics created this one and hosts the download on their own site, so you always get the latest version straight from the source.

Macbook Mockup: editable parts

Everything below is on its own layer:

  • Screen design, placed through the smart object
  • Screen glare and reflection layers
  • Shadow under the device
  • Device colour, where the file includes it

Editing the Macbook Mockup, step by step

  1. Export your screen design as a PNG at the exact size of the screen smart object.
  2. Open the PSD in Photoshop and find the smart object layer, usually named “Your Design” or “Place Here”.
  3. Place your design, hide the sample artwork, save, and go back to the main file.
  4. Change the background colour to fit your brand.
  5. Export a full-size image for your portfolio and a smaller one for social media.

One more thing: make your screen design at the exact pixel size of the smart object, otherwise text on the screen turns blurry.

Where the Macbook Mockup works best

  • Show a website homepage to a client before it goes to print or production.
  • Use it as the cover image for a portfolio case study in your portfolio.
  • Present a SaaS dashboard in a client proposal or brand guide.

Good to know

  • Made by PSD Graphics. The download size and format are listed on their page.
  • Built for Adobe Photoshop. A recent CC version handles the smart objects best.
  • Check the smart object size before you design, so your artwork fits without stretching.

Questions about this mockup

Can I use this MacBook mockup for client work?

PSD Graphics sets the licence, and it can differ from file to file. Many free files allow personal and commercial use, but some are personal-only or ask for credit. Read the terms on the download page before a paid project.

How do I add my design?

Open the file in Photoshop, double-click the smart object thumbnail, paste or place your artwork in the new tab, save it (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close. The main file updates on its own.

Do I need Photoshop?

Yes. This is a PSD mockup built with smart objects, so you edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Any recent CC version works.

What size should my screenshot be?

Open the screen smart object and check its canvas size in Image › Canvas Size. Paste your screenshot at that size so it stays sharp.
