Newspaper Mock-up

Here’s a newspaper mockup that works well for an editorial layout, an ad placement and similar projects.
Useful for ad agencies as much as for PR teams. Quick tip: use CMYK-friendly colours in the artwork itself, even though the mockup is RGB, so what the client sees is close to print.
Seeing a layout on a real newspaper is also the easiest way to catch problems early. A phone number that looked fine on screen can turn out too small once it sits on paper.

What’s inside the Newspaper Mock-up PSD
Open it in Photoshop and you can change:
- Your design, placed through the smart object
- Paper texture you can turn up or down
- Front and back artwork, where both sides are shown
How to edit this Newspaper Mock-up in Photoshop
- Get your artwork ready at print size, with 3 mm of bleed if it runs to the edge.
- Open the file in Photoshop and double-click the smart object thumbnail in the Layers panel.
- Paste your design, resize it to fill the area, then save (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close that tab.
- Turn the texture layer up or down to match the paper you’ll print on.
- Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.
One more thing: export your artwork at the size the smart object asks for; scaling a small file up is the usual reason print mockups look soft.
Where the Newspaper Mock-up works best
- Show an editorial layout to a client before it goes to print or production.
- Present a front page in a client proposal or brand guide.
- Use it as the cover image for an ad placement in your portfolio.
Quick notes on this mockup
- Made by Zippypixels. The download size and format are listed on their page.
- Check the smart object size before you design, so your artwork fits without stretching.
- Some free mockups ask for credit when you post them. A short line in your caption is enough.

Questions about this mockup
Is it free for commercial use?
That depends on the author's terms. The download page lists what is allowed; when in doubt, ask the author directly.
How do I put my artwork on the newspaper?
Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.
Do I need Photoshop?
Yes. This is a PSD mockup built with smart objects, so you edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Any recent CC version works.
Will my artwork look printed or pasted on?
Most print mockups keep the paper texture and lighting on separate layers above your design, so it takes on the grain and shadows. If it still looks too clean, lower the opacity of your artwork a little.
Why does the download open another website?
We list free files from designers around the web and link to the original page, so Zippypixels gets the visit and you get the file exactly as they published it.
