Realistic Book Mockup PSD

What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD
  • License Free (see author's terms)
  • Author PSD Zone

This book mockup is one of the simpler ways to present a book cover or a cookbook convincingly.

Good pick for publishers, cover designers or anyone putting together a portfolio. Quick tip: dark designs often look flat on paper mockups. Turning the highlight layer up slightly brings back the sheen.

It also makes a good cover image for a Behance or Dribbble post, where the first thumbnail decides whether anyone clicks.

Good for

  • A book cover
  • A cookbook
  • A novel jacket

Credit goes to PSD Zone. We link to their download page rather than re-uploading the file, so check their terms there before commercial use.

What you can edit in this Realistic Book Mockup

Everything below is on its own layer:

  • Your design, placed through the smart object
  • Paper or background colour
  • Shadows and highlights on their own layers
  • Paper texture you can turn up or down

Editing the Realistic Book Mockup, step by step

  1. Set up the design flat at the real print size and keep text inside a safe margin.
  2. Open the PSD in Photoshop and find the smart object layer, usually named “Your Design” or “Place Here”.
  3. Paste your design, resize it to fill the area, then save (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close that tab.
  4. Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.

If the paper has texture, drop the opacity of your art by a few percent so the grain shows through.

Questions about this mockup

Can I use this book mockup for client work?

PSD Zone sets the licence, and it can differ from file to file. Many free files allow personal and commercial use, but some are personal-only or ask for credit. Read the terms on the download page before a paid project.

How do I put my artwork on the book?

Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.

Do I need Photoshop?

Yes. This is a PSD mockup built with smart objects, so you edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Any recent CC version works.

Can I show both sides?

It depends on the file. Many print mockups include a front and a back smart object; the preview usually shows whether both sides are visible.
