Half Folded Newspaper Mockup

An ad placement looks better on a half folded newspaper mockup than on a white artboard, and this mockup is set up for exactly that.
It’s a handy file for editorial designers and ad agencies. Quick tip: use CMYK-friendly colours in the artwork itself, even though the mockup is RGB, so what the client sees is close to print.
Print jobs are expensive to redo, so a realistic preview before the order goes out is cheap insurance. For a complete brand board, show it next to a business card and a notebook.

Half Folded Newspaper Mockup: editable parts
Main things you can change in Photoshop:
- Your design, placed through the smart object
- Shadows and highlights on their own layers
- Paper or background colour
- Paper texture you can turn up or down
How to use the Half Folded Newspaper Mockup
- Get your artwork ready at print size, with 3 mm of bleed if it runs to the edge.
- In the Layers panel, find the layer with the small smart object icon and double-click it.
- Paste your design, resize it to fill the area, then save (Ctrl/Cmd + S) and close that tab.
- Turn the texture layer up or down to match the paper you’ll print on.
- Export with File › Export › Export As: JPG for sharing, PNG for the web.
One more thing: if the paper has texture, drop the opacity of your art by a few percent so the grain shows through.

Questions about this mockup
Can I use this newspaper mockup for client work?
It's free to download, but the licence belongs to Zippypixels. Check their page: it states whether commercial use is allowed and if attribution is needed.
How do I put my artwork on the newspaper?
Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.
Which Photoshop version do I need?
A recent Photoshop CC version is best. Older versions can open the file but sometimes have trouble with smart objects and effects.
Can I show both sides?
It depends on the file. Many print mockups include a front and a back smart object; the preview usually shows whether both sides are visible.
