Dust Jacket Book Mockups PSD

What's inside

  • Applications Photoshop
  • File Types PSD
  • License Free (see author's terms)

Presenting a novel jacket? Put it on this dust jacket book mockup and the client sees the real thing, not a flat file.

Good pick for authors, cover designers or anyone putting together a portfolio. Export your artwork at the size the smart object asks for; scaling a small file up is the usual reason print mockups look soft.

Print jobs are expensive to redo, so a realistic preview before the order goes out is cheap insurance.

This is a free file from Mockups Design. When you click download you’ll land on their page to grab it.

What you can edit in this Dust Jacket Book Mockups

The PSD is layered, so you can change:

  • Your design, placed through the smart object
  • Shadows and highlights on their own layers
  • Paper or background colour
  • Front and back artwork, where both sides are shown

Add your design to the Dust Jacket Book Mockups

  1. Export your artwork as a high-resolution PNG or JPG, around 300 ppi at print size.
  2. Open the PSD in Photoshop and find the smart object layer, usually named “Your Design” or “Place Here”.
  3. Place your design, hide the sample artwork, save, and go back to the main file.
  4. Change the background or paper colour with the colour layer.
  5. Export a full-size image for your portfolio and a smaller one for social media.

Another tip: keep text at least a few millimetres from the edge. The mockup shows the trim, and cramped margins read as a mistake.

Ways to use this Dust Jacket Book Mockups

  • Use it as the cover image for an annual report cover in your portfolio.
  • Share a novel jacket on Instagram, Behance or Dribbble with a real-looking preview.
  • Show a book cover on your online shop or product page.

Quick notes on this mockup

  • The preview shows the angle, background and lighting you’ll get.
  • Some free mockups ask for credit when you post them. A short line in your caption is enough.
  • Check the licence on the author’s page. Personal and commercial terms differ from file to file.

Questions about this mockup

What licence does it come with?

It's free to download, but the licence belongs to Mockups Design. Check their page: it states whether commercial use is allowed and if attribution is needed.

How do I put my artwork on the book?

Find the smart object layer (it has a small icon on its thumbnail), double-click it, place your design, then save and close that tab.

Do I need Photoshop?

Yes. This is a PSD mockup built with smart objects, so you edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Any recent CC version works.

Will my artwork look printed or pasted on?

Most print mockups keep the paper texture and lighting on separate layers above your design, so it takes on the grain and shadows. If it still looks too clean, lower the opacity of your artwork a little.
